Florida AIDS Walk & Music Festival
In 2001, less than a year after the tragic death of my daughter Kimberly, I heard about an AIDS walk in Miami. I was still dealing with the devastation that Kim’s death brought to my life, but wanted to be a part of something that would help others dealing with this heinous disease.
My friend Jackie Pilecki, who also had adopted a child with HIV and I decided to form a team to join the walk. We wanted the team to be about our kids, and what they deal with on a daily basis, as well as the need for a cure. We came up with the name “Kidz 4 A Cure”. The first team consisted of 2 moms, their children. We bought visors and painted “Kidz 4 A Cure”, and a dream was born.
Several years later, AIDS Healthcare Foundation started Florida AIDS Walk in Fort Lauderdale. We walked in the inaugural walk, and Kidz 4 A Cure has been represented in every walk since then. AHF has been a real friend to me and my girls, providing love and support whenever we needed it. I am proud to be a part of helping them reach their goals.
